December Update

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season and is looking forward to an exciting 2019!

2018 has been an interesting year. We had some ups and downs and we even got hacked! But now we are on a better server. Most important though, is that we had some very interesting posts in 2018! I hope you have a chance to read them and post your thoughts.

It’s really important that your voice is heard as part of this community. Safety Differently is not a dogma or even a set of practices, but a mindset that begins, first and foremost, with a questioning, curious, challenging attitude. So please challenge everything that doesn’t make sense. Ask critical questions. Push us all further in our thinking.

For 2019 I have quite a few posts in the works from some great contributors. So keep an eye out for that! If you’re interested in writing a post then get in touch with me! We are always looking for fresh perspectives.

There are also a few things I want to draw your attention to. First, an article from the American Society of Safety Professionals President that I found interesting, not so much because there is anything new in it, but that it shows broader acceptance of the ideas within this space. See the link below and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments:

Let’s engage our workers!

Also, I wanted to draw your attention to some learning opportunities that seem interesting. More information for each can be found in the respective links below. If you have learning opportunities you would like to draw peoples’ attention to please reach out to me.

Master Class – Human Factors & Safety in Amsterdam, Netherlands (January 21-24)

Safety Leadership Seminar in Amsterdam, Netherlands (January 25)

Safety Differently Principles and Practices Update in Vancouver, BC (February 8)

Safety-II in Practice Workshop in Florida, USA (February 25-27)

    Hi Ron,

Thanks for all the great Safety differently and Safety-ll posts. Looking forward to reading more posts on the practicable application of Safety Differently and safety-ll. Just a wee question is there any planned Safety-II or Safety Differently workshops in Ireland? I think I may have to travel to get my dose of Safety Differently. Happy New Year to everyone.

Hello Seán! It is truly my pleasure.

Right now I’m not aware of anything in Ireland but perhaps someone who is reading this knows of something. Hopefully they will either respond with some information for you. If I hear of anything I’ll let you know though!
