Updates and Resources

Updates for October 2018.

Hello everyone in the Safety Differently community! I just wanted to take a few minutes of your precious time to update you on the happenings over here at SafetyDifferently.com and draw your attention to a few resources you might find interesting and useful.

Updates

So, as some of you may know already, I have taken over ownership of the site from Daniel Hummerdal. Daniel’s still around and will always be involved with the site to a degree, but he has stepped away to focus on other endeavors. I am honored by this opportunity to run the site that was so instrumental in my growth in the Safety Differently space. I only hope that I can keep delivering thought-provoking content for you all (and by you all!) for the foreseeable future. Of course I can’t do that without your help (more on that later).

Second, the SafetyDifferently.com site crashed this week, allegedly due to a hack of some sort (at least that’s what the tech people tell me). As a result of this, realizing that I was quickly in over my head, I have taken steps to move the site to a more stable server (Thanks to AirTight for this). Hopefully we won’t have anymore issues in the future.

Finally, I wanted to say a few words about content. First off, the intention of this site is to provide space for people to share their thoughts, ideas, and practices about doing Safety Differently. My main criteria I look for in content is that it is something about Safety Differently. I don’t even have to agree with the approach or content of the post, as long as it is something  within that space. My hope is that this site provides space for the community to wrestle with Safety Differently and that a set of ideas and practices emerge from those conversations.

To that end, I need your help. First, it is really important that you get involved. Comment on posts. Provide your perspective. Disagree (respectfully). Challenge. Clarify. Add. Collaborate. The more passive your involvement in the site is the worse the experience will be for yourself and others.

Further, if you have ideas for posts you’d like to share with the community feel free to get in touch with me. The more contributions we have from a diverse set of perspectives, the better. You can email me using the form at the bottom of this post or in the comments below.

Resources

I also want to draw your attention to a few new resources we have available for you.

First, Sidney Dekker has released another documentary entitled “The Complexity of Failure”. You can view it on our video gallery or simply click here.

Second, we’ve also uploaded Ivan Pupulidy’s TedX talk on learning reviews to the video gallery, and you can view that by clicking here.

Finally, I’ve uploaded a paper I wrote a couple years ago for a conference where I lay out my perspective on Safety Differently. You can access that here (link).

If you have any resources you’d like to share with the community reach out to me here using the contact form below.

Thanks for your contributions to helping people do Safety Differently.
